A little bit of something

There is so much going on lately I don't even know where to begin. I think the most important thing to talk about is the one thing that has been on my mind more than anything else over the last couple of days. You know, the story that everyone has been talking about, because OH MY GOD REALLY? |At what age do you realise that it's just wrong... so wrong... so terribly wrong... You know what I'm talking about, don't you? Yup. The capes. The weird, Eyes Wide Shut capes that Courtney and Lindzi wore on last night's episode of The Bachelor. God, I'm glad this season is over, because I couldn't bear to look at robotic, zero personality bad-haired Ben any longer. In all seriousness, let's talk plagiarism. I learned it was wrong to steal other people's work years before I graduated from university. I mean, duh . This is something my boys, who are four and six years old, already know. I have a hard time writing about a similar topic another...

Fear 2.0

I have major fears . Things that used to mildy scare me now completely freak me out. I used to ski all the time, and even though I was always scared of crashing into a tree and dying, I did it. I liked the ski outfits, goggles, and hanging out in the chalet, okay? And actually, I liked skiing, too, even though once I accidentally made a wrong turn down a double black diamond hill. It took me all day to get down that hill on my behind, but I did it. I went white water rafting when the rapids were at a level 4, and although at first I didn't even know I'd get wet once I was in the boat (ha!) I did it, and even fell OUT of the boat twice, but I did it , and I won the prize for "most entertaining" afterwards. I went snow tubing, for crying out loud, when I was 19. I sat in an inner tube and propelled down an icy steep ski hill at top speed. I'm pretty sure I had a mild heart attack that night, but I don't remember because I drank so much afterwards so as to numb...

The Songs That Define Me

I used to think I had nothing in common with Einstein. He was a brilliant man who changed the world, the man who invented E=mc². Don't ask me to explain what that means, because I don't even know how to do long division. Einstein and I, we are not similar people. But . I once read something he said, and it made perfect sense to me. He was finally speaking my language. “If I were not a physicist," Einstein said, "I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.” Bang on, Einstein. Bang on. I, too, often think of my life in music, even though I can't play an instrument well, unless you count the two years I played the violin in middle school, or the several years I spent playing the guitar. Oh, and let's not talk about my voice; Adele, I am not. However, music is in me. It moves me. Whenever I watch a movie with a good soundtrack, I get chills. I have dreams of being the person who gets t...

Happenings

Life is busy. Sometimes overwhelmingly so. Being a mom is a constant job, and having a full-time job on top of everything else? Might as well throw the word balance out the window. But, busy is good, for the most part, despite the lack of sleep and constantly being on the go. I do wish life came with a pause button, though. These moments with my boys are precious, all of them. And time passes too quickly, it's almost scary. The days I can drop the boys off at school and pick them up are extra moments with them that I'm grateful for. Conversations in the car, extra hugs on the playground, and big smiles when they see me at the end of their day make my heart skip a beat. I wish my schedule would allow me to do drop-off and pick-up everyday. It's something I'm working on. Blogging has slowed down a bit for me, because I can't turn the computer on when I'm home and my children are awake. If there are distractions, I might miss things like: "Mommy, I don't ...

How I Wear My Jeans

This series is brought to you by Levi’s® Curve ID. Find your custom fit at Levi’s® stores or Levi.com They're your go-to pair of pants. The ones you wear to a party, for a night out on the town, and when you're at the park with your children. You had a favourite pair in high school, and you remember wearing them with safety pins. You wore them high-waisted when you were young and didn't know any better, and those pictures now make you cringe-laugh. You wore them super-low when you were a teenager and in your early twenties, and those pictures now make you miss the days when your abs were so perfectly flat that you could get away with wearing them like that. They're part of the perfect outfit for date night, paired with a sexy top and heels, and you wear them to work with a blazer. You have more than one pair; in fact, you have too many pairs to admit, but they're an investment, and besides, once you find your perfect pair, it only makes sense to buy as many as you ...

Family Day: You're invited!

It seems like February is the busiest month of the year. Maybe because it's a short month, or maybe because keeping busy when it's so cold helps us forget how bad the weather is outside. I have Post-It notes everywhere to remind me of all things I will likely forget if I don't have constant reminders to look at. I'm happy it's a busy month, because it means we are one step closer to summer. (Call me optimistic if you will...) I've been busy playing catch-up at home and at work, and staying on top of all the school and after school activities with my boys while trying to maintain a somewhat active social life. Also, can we talk about how hard it is to get six year old boys to focus on homework? It's not an easy task, let me tell you. I'm breaking out in a cold sweat just thinking about it. I haven't been blogging as much as I'd like to be, here or on my Yummy Mummy Club shopping blog , but I hope to fall into a more regular routine again once all...

Adventures from Florida

Whenever I go on vacation with my family, something crazy always happens. Whether it's locking my six month old baby in the hotel room by accident, or being stuck in a Cuban resort during a hurricane, we bring home many memories. Souvenirs, if you will. The craziness usually starts in the airport before we even board the plane, and the adventures continue from that point on. My family and I spent a week near Miami, at the Westin Resort and Spa, where we go every year. The kids love it, and I do, too. The pools are beautiful, the location is perfect (10 minutes from Aventura Mall, 10 minutes to Bal Harbour Shops, and nooo I don't base my vacations on shopping destinations... um... not completely, anyway!) and we're right on the beach. I choose Florida as our winter getaway destination every year because being the worrier that I am, I like knowing that if we had a medical emergency, we'd have excellent health care, like we do in Canada. I never thought we'd h...

Getting away from it all

When I was 19, my cousin Loukia came to visit me from Greece in January. She was fascinated by the snow and winter. I looked at her like she was crazy, because clearly, she was. Maybe she'd spent too many hours in the sun in beautiful Greece, and was suffering from some sort of prolonged sun stroke? Tomorrow I'm going on a much needed vacation with my family to my favourite place on earth, south Florida, where we'll stay at one of my favourite resorts, like we do most years. I'm excited to be getting away from the things that make me moan and groan in the winter, like: Stepping in snow. Wet socks. Salt stains on pants. Boots that get destroyed. Freezing rain. Never-ending snow. Beyond cold temperatures. Scraping ice off of my car. Sick people sneezing everywhere. Dark skies and massive depression. Blinding snowstorms. Snow squalls. Minus 40 degrees. People who LOVE winter. Slush. Dressing my children in snowpants, jackets, mitts, scarves, hats. (F...

January funk, and being happy

January is almost over. This is a very amazing thing, because it means the end of winter is near. Well, maybe not so close I can almost touch it close, but close enough to know that the worst is (almost?) over. I am in a funk, as is most often the case during these cold, dark, winter months. However, despite the fact that I've got a case of SAD and cry over every single commercial I see on TV right now, even if it's about getting an oil change, I'm happy. I'm happy because my baby boy just turned four, and he had a wonderful birthday party with all the important people in his life there to celebrate with him. He even had a custom-made Home Alone 2: Lost in New York cake, since it's his most favourite movie, ever. I'm happy because I'm reading The Hunger Games right now, and I can't put it down. I'm happy because there are two more books to read in the trilogy so I am not going through " I'm almost finished this book, oh no!" anxiety. ...

Four, like that

I read once that time is like a circus, always packing up and moving away. How true this is. Time passes, things change. Children grow. Too quickly, if you ask me. And sometimes, I want nothing more than to just pause time, because I want to hold on to the now forever. How quickly does time pass? In the blink of an eye. Today, my baby boy, who I could swear was just born yesterday, is four years old. FOUR. YEARS! OLD. As I snuggle beside him, breathing in his delicious smelling hair, looking at his precious baby face, I can't quite grasp the fact that it's been four years since we brought him home from the hospital. I was a way more relaxed mom, the second time around. Sure, I sat in the back seat on that drive home, but I was able to sleep easier, and nurse easier, and basically, just go with the flow easier. My baby boy makes me smile. I don't care that my boys have a late bedtime and I don't care that I'm still sleeping beside my four year old, every single night...
