From Summer Days to School Days

It feels like only yesterday I was listening to School's Out by Alice Cooper on the loud speakers at my son's school, as the doors opened, like right out of a movie, with hundreds of students coming screaming and running out with excitement. You know, like that scene in Dazed and Confused? Only with little kids.

How can it be that it's mid-August already? And why is it that the best season of all is the one that goes by in the blink of an eye? Why can't winter go by that quickly? Yes, I'm already hating on winter. Sigh.

We've had a great summer. We swam almost every single day. We went to the park, we went on walks through the ravine, we visited Lac Philippe, we went to south Florida with my mom and swam in the warm ocean for a week at our favourite Westin Diplomat resort, my oldest son turned seven, he played soccer for the third year in a row, and I went to BlogHer in New York City.

My family and I just got back from a great vacation to Toronto, Niagara Falls, and Great Wolf Lodge, too. This resort, you guys? It is Las Vegas for kids, and actually quite fun for the whole family. We all had a blast in the indoor water park, and even in the arcade. My sister and her family joined us for the fun, so that was an added bonus. It was amazing. The rooms came equipped with bunk beds for the kids, even though they ended up sleeping in the real beds, while my husband camped out in the bunk beds during our stay.

Now we're just enjoying the last couple of weeks of August by spending as much time as we can outside, inhaling the smells of summer, BBQing, and swimming, swimming, swimming. Before we know it, it'll be time to head back-to-school!

Sure, there is some excitement around that, because hello, staying home with the kids during the summer is exhausting, and thinking of something new! fun! and exciting! to do every day is... tiring. Getting back into a routine is something I think we are all craving right about now, right? I can't wait for my boys to go to school!

I'm also looking forward to back-to-school shopping. From new clothes to school supplies, I love taking the kids out to get new school stuff. Hilroy sent me a package of awesome back-to-school supplies for my boys.  From pencil cases to pencil crayons, my school supply shopping is almost done!
Hilroy is also giving away the same package to one of my readers, so if you have a little one heading back to school? This giveaway is for you!

Just leave me a comment below telling me why you are excited for school to start again, and I will pick a winner randomly on August 21st. Contest is open to Canadian and U.S. residents.

Good Luck, and I hope you enjoy the last couple of weeks of summer before school starts again!

Well I was going to comment anyway so I guess I might as well enter a draw as well :D

We did more this summer than ever before too! I think it's because I got into blogging that I have become more aware of the importance of family time and doing a ton of fun things.

My son starts school this year for the first time and I am already so proud of him, lol. I'll be the dad pretending to wipe something out of eye as he runs to the playground without turning back...

I am happy to go back to school because each new school year is a new start for me at work as well.
I will also be, for the first time, sending all three of my little ones to school. Not sure how I feel about my littlest being in JK!

It is such a hassle getting back on track with the kids after holidays. It even worse when you have a young one starting. Over time everything falls into play.

Back to school signals a new year. New experiences, new schedule and back to comfort food!
Even my 12 year old said she was looking forward to September!

Honestly I'm looking forward to it for purely selfish reasons....uninterrupted writing time in the mornings again. Can't wait!

In my mind the real new year begins in September. I think all parents can relate to this. I like the promise, the excitement in the air. I love seeing my children move forward

I'm not looking forward to summer ending, either, but I do miss the routine of school days.
I'm so excited for the twins to start "real" school. They didn't quite make the age deadline for starting last year - and while I am more than fine with that, I can see that they are READY!

I love walking my kidlets to school. We chat, we dawdle, we run into neighbours, we check out the worms on the sidewalk. Probably the best 10 minutes of the day (followed by the nice 5 minutes of solo time I enjoy on the walk home after I drop them off!).

I'm excited because my older boy is going to start school in september. He has been looking forward to this all summer. He loves wearing his backpack and stuffing his backpack with all his toys. Can't wait to send him off in the school bus(and with me following behind the bus all the way to the school...hee, hee)

Yeah, so I'm just about done with summer. Don't hate me! July was WAY too hot - I spent the entire month inside my air-conditioned home. I'm excited for fall and for the kids to go back to school. I know, I'll be cursing myself just after Christmas...
