The scariest moment...

As a mom, you experience a lot of 'scary moments'. Moments that you can't stop thinking about after, thinking 'what if?' You're always told: never leave your baby unattended on the change table, never leave your baby alone on your bed, and always stay near your baby when they are in the bath. Well, I have done all of that. I've never left Christos alone on his change table, except to step to the side to grab a pair of pj's, but my hands are always on him. And as soon as he was able to roll onto his tummy or move around, he was never alone on our bed. And in the bath, I'm always, always, always there beside him, practically in the tub myself. The other day Christos wanted to take out the rubber mat that is in the bathtub so he could slide around easier. "Okay", I thought, "I'm right here, he won't slip." Well, 2 seconds later, he slips and goes under the water... completely covered in water, since the tub was filled to the top. I could see him looking up at me with such fear in his eyes, swallowing water. While the moment did not last longer then a second, it felt like an eternity. I moved lightning speed to scoop up my darling boy, and he coughed and coughed and was perfectly fine. Thank God. That had to be one of the scariest moments I have experienced as a mother. The heart-stopping-stomach-dropping-dizzy-room-spinning-palms-sweating-feeling you only experience after having a child. I now know better than to ever remove the rubber mat again! (Yes, they are a pain to clean, but they are also a life-saver!) I felt a bit better about the incident after speaking to lots of moms who say they very same thing has happened to them... some say it happens all the time! But still, if you're a mom, you know the fear I'm talking about, and you know that no matter how careful you are, accidents do happen and our hearts will beat again, after the intial shock and fear subside.

Loulou, you had your first scary Mom incident. I'm not a Mom but I remember when I was with my ex and his son, we would always be together and one day we were at the gas station and I left him in the back seat of the car to pump the gas...he was about 4 then. I went into the car to grab my purse to pay and he was gone...I freaked out. He eventually came around the other side of the car - he was hiding from me - but man did I ever freak out. My heart completely stopped.

On another note...can you imagine this...and we swim in the ocean....can you imagine surfing along and all of a sudden you see this...

WELLINGTON (AFP) - A New Zealand fishing boat has landed what is believed to be a world record squid weighing an estimated 450 kilograms (990 pounds).

The gigantic sea creature is about 10 metres (33 feet) long and about 150 kilograms heavier than the next biggest specimen ever found.

The fishing vessel San Aspiring was long lining in the Ross Sea near Antarctica, and the squid was dining on a hooked toothfish when it was hauled from the deep.

"He just appeared as a great, big, dark shape coming out of the depths. He was wrapped around a 30-kilogram toothfish and he was just munching away on it," the ship's captain, John Bennett, told AFP Thursday.

"We stopped hauling the line and got it alongside the ship, and we decided it was really in too poor a condition to release, so we decided we would get a cargo net around it and lift it aboard."

Bennett said the squid probably latched onto the toothfish at a depth of 1,800 metres.

He said it was "about the size of a small car", but although it had been estimated at 450kg Bennett believed that would be at the high end.

New Zealand Fisheries Minister Jim Anderton, who announced the catch, said the colossal squid (mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni) had been frozen and would be preserved for scientific study.

"It is likely that it is the first intact adult male colossal squid to ever be successfully landed.

"The scientific community will be very interested in this amazing creature," Anderton said, describing the colossal squid as "as one of the most mysterious creatures in the deep ocean."

Colossal squid are found in Antarctic waters and are not related to the giant squid (Architeuthis species). Giant squid also grow up to 12 metres, but are not as heavy.

That must have stopped your heart cold. But this was not my first - it was for sure one of the scariest but for sure not my first. I remember the first few months every time my baby slept for longer then 3 hours I'd literally have a miny heart attack thinking something was wrong. Oh, I worry all the time, but yeah, this incident was scary!

Are you taking out the rubber mat after each bath? I find that if I take it off of the bottom of the tub and stick it to the shower wall (where it dries faster), it doesn't get gunky as fast as if I leave it on the bottom of the tub all the time.

the minute one becomes a mom, the worries and the scary moments come with it. And it doesn't go away as they get older ;) We can only do our best and hope for the best and not make ourselves worry sick either. Kids are resilient little folks :)
