The finer things in life..

My oldest son was playing with his cousin today. His cousin was playing with a little toy sword of some sort. It broke.

My son's reaction?

"It broke because it was made in China and it's from the dollar store. Things from the dollar store are cheap. Only toys make in Germany are good and don't break."

Ah, yes, son. So glad you have acquired your mommy's taste for the 'good' things in life! (He even knows our VW was made in Germany, and he want a Golf when he's old enough to drive!)

And let's be real here - the best toys are made in Germany - or other fine European countries! Like Playmobil. And Lego.

Lego Rocks! My daughter has heaps of it and I'll be keeping it around for my grand kids and heck even my great-grand kids! Lego is indestructible.

My husband is so annoyed when I buy anything from the dollar store. Fine, so it does break within 2 hrs, but sometimes I just can't help myself. :)

Oh, honey, I agree! Cheap-o toys are.the.worst!!

Isabella receives tons of (how do I say this nicely....) junk/crap from the in-laws. I'm always throwing it away--usually when the husband is at work :)

Ha, ha! I'd have to agree. MY son, on the other hand, breaks something and says,"Oh, well, it's OK. We can just buy another one at the store." Um, no.

I couldn't agree more. The best-quality toys are made in Germany, Switzerland and sometimes Denmark and Austria. For some reason the German-speaking countries make AWESOME wooden toys. And the dolls? You probably don't deal with those because you have boys, but the old-fashioned dolls are the best, and they are usually from Germany. They can totally kick American Girl's ass.

I agree. I have seen some neat wooden retro toys that I want to get the kids. Playmobil is expensive here!!

Germans take their toys seriously! And their rules...and beer :)

I'd rather have a few good, nice toys and not a bunch of junk toys. Easier said than done.
